Mary Elizabeth Kent (well-known as Betty), 92, made her life’s transition on Thursday, December 10, 2020. She was one of nine children born to John W. Carter and Dorothy E. Carter (nee Christie). She was educated at the Mt. Rose School and graduated from Wm. Penn High School. Betty was raised in Bethel AME church. However, in later years she became a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. For many years she actively participated in activities with a group of women at the White Rose Senior Center. She also served on the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 794 and as a Grandmother at the Crispus Attucks Community Center. Betty was an avid Bingo player, who also enjoyed crossword puzzles, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and she will forever be known for her extensive collection of elephant jewelry and collectibles.
Betty is survived by one brother, Richard Carter, of Clinton, MD. She was married to Robert S. Kent and gave birth to nine children. One son, Kobe Kent, died in 2001. Her surviving children are Maude (Liz) Kent, Mara (Cissi) MacArthur, Riti Webster, Robert S. Kent, Jr. (Rose), D. Ron Kent (Pamela), Miki Kent, J. Wes Kent (Jacquelyn), and Mort J. Kent (Renae). Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, her children’s friends, neighbors, her church family, and Bingo friends. Hopes are for a public celebration of her life next August.
