Denwood “Denny” Marvin Howard a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather fell asleep in death on May 31, 2025, at the age of eighty-three. Denny was born on August 5, 1941, in Mount Union, PA, to the late James Howard, Sr. and Beatrice Verdier Howard. He was a popular athlete in school, having played many different sports during his school years. After graduation, he attended Bluefield State college in WV and later served in the US Air Force.
In 1968, Denny married Joe Ella Jones, and together they raised their three children in Philadelphia, PA, and later Altoona, PA. Denny worked in many fields from music to electrician to retiring from Metro North. His strong, cheerful, and generous nature endeared him to those who knew him, forming many lasting friendships throughout the years.
Denny is predeceased by his beloved wife, Joe Ella. He is survived by his children, Richard, La Sandra, and Starrlene; grandchildren Jason Allen, Kasema, Reashard, Denwood (Heather), and Lynnette; great grandchildren Brock, Justin, Garrett, Jillian, and Sia; sister Mary Green and brother Arthur Howard; brothers-in-law Silas Jones and Leon Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday June 19, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with a service starting at 12 noon at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. 822 E. Market Street, York, PA 17403. Burial will be held at Greenmount Cemetery immediately following the service. Mr. Howard will have full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
