Iris M. (Jackson) Nimmons, 82, entered into the arms of the Lord on August 6, 2023 at York Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Odell Nimmons.
Born on January 3, 1941 in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Julian J. Jackson and Iris C. (Johnson) Jackson.
Iris was avidly involved within the community, volunteering at York County Literacy Council, Martin Memorial Library, numerous churches and out reach programs, food banks, nursing homes and hospitals.
Iris leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Sylvia Sanders, Jody Butts and Sonya Butts-Rainey and husband, Moete; siblings, Sandy Christopher, Julian Jackson (Shirley), Joseph Jackson, Tyrone Thomas (Sarah), Rhodia Thomas, Lynnette Thomas, and Karen Riley (Dwayne); 26 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held August 18, 2023, at 12 noon at Emmanuel Church - God In Christ, 825 E. Princess St, York PA. Pastor McMillan will be officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Mt. Rose Cemetery. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
