James L. Markey, Sr, 89, passed away April 4, 2025. Born in York, PA on February 27, 1936; he was the son of the late Raymond S. and Florence E. (Shearer) Markey.

James loved to farm and did so throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a man of strong faith. His greatest passion was his family, whom will miss him dearly.

James leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Marilyn Hacker (Dan), Vicki McWilliams (James), Teena Hoy, James Markey, Jr. (Debra) and Steven Markey (Teresa); twelve grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; siblings, Dale Markey, Doris DeJonge and Charles Markey (Georgia). He was preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn "Sue" Capatch and granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Markey.

Services will be private. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
