Joseph Lee Banks, known to most as “Joe,” of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026. Born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1958, Joe’s life was defined by his devotion to family, creativity, kindness, and passion for bringing people together.
Joe was educated in the Gettysburg Public School system. At United CoolAir, he was recognized for his dedication and strong professional commitment. Outside of work, he fully embraced his varied interests and creative nature. Joe had a deep love for music and was well-known for DJing at local venues and family gatherings, creating memorable experiences filled with celebration and connection. He also enjoyed watching sports, playing basketball, creating and selling art, and spending quality time with his family. His generosity and unique ability to make everyone feel welcome made him truly special. Joe’s greatest source of happiness came from his family. He provided encouragement, guidance, and support to many, serving as a father figure to his children’s siblings and their families. Wherever he went, he naturally built a strong sense of community and family.
Joe is survived by his sons, Jermaine L. Mitchell (Luke Rezin) and Jamar L. Mitchell; his grandchildren, Jo’Sigh Mitchell and Jazaire L. Williams; his great-granddaughter, Sy’Raeign A. Williams; and his siblings, Kimberly “Kim” Banks-Bradham (Robert), Michelle “Mikey” Banks, Phillip “Phil” Banks, Norma Nolden (Carl Peeples), and Shirette Holden-Gary (Neff). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will honor and carry forward his memory. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Martha Banks; his mother, Margarett Sailsbury (Banks); his daughter, Shada L. Williams; his granddaughter, Shi’Bre Mitchell; and his sister, Martha Martin (Banks).
Joe’s love, creativity, kindness, and the memories he created will carry on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
